MPB60 - Rough aligning using detachable Setup Cones
To simplify and enhance the setup of the MPB60 boring bar, Metalock Machines offers detachable setup cones. These cones are made from lightweight yet durable plastic, and their split design allows them to be removed without the need to remove the boring bar out of the bearing supports.
Available in two sizes, the cones enable rough alignment for bore diameters ranging from 70 mm (2.76 in) to 320 mm (12.6 in). The mounting clamps hold the detachable setup cones securely in place, while the alignment screws on the clamps push the cones against the bore for optimal centering during rough aligning.
Once the boring bar is rough aligned, and the bearing housings, mounting plates, and spacers are installed the detachable setup cones can then be removed without dismantling the boring bar, saving machinists considerable time and effort.
For optimal machining results, ensure the boring bar has the shortest possible free-hanging span to minimise the risk of unwanted vibrations. Additional support bearings can be added as needed, using either Metalock Machines mounting plates or internal diameter mounts.
With rough alignment complete, the boring bar is now ready for fine alignment, ensuring the best machining outcomes.
